Lydia's Consignment Boutique

The Pinehurst Southern Pines area is widely accepted as the Golf Capital of the World. With over 40 championship courses in the vicinity, this is a moniker well deserved. The nearly year-round nice weather that made it a mecca for golf also makes it a mecca for retirees — Pinehurst came in fourth in Money Magazine's recent listing of the 25 best places to retire — and that makes it a mecca for stuff. Not just golf stuff, though there's plenty of that:.

New retirees arrive every day drawn by the moderate climate, the Carolina-blue sky, the lifestyle, great healthcare and the golf. Most move into their nice new retirement homes. They leave behind alot of stuff; the snow shovels, snow tires and sacks of Sno-Melt. They arrive in the area with moving vans jam-packed with the good stuff; their finest attire, jewelry, the nice furniture, antiques, crystal, fine china, the wedding silver, They quickly rebuild their wardrobe of “classic resort wear” and quickly fill their homes with more new stuff. They settle in and live the Pinehurst good life for 15 or 20 or 30 years.

Most of their stuff outlives them. When the time comes to move on, the stuff has to go somewhere. Their kids already have stuff of their own. So their stuff goes to auction, is sold at tag sales, is donated to thrift shops or consigned to consignment shops. It's a massive, complicated, ongoing redistribution of stuff. Because of this sociological phenomenon, Pinehurst and the surrounding areas offer some of the best consignment shopping anywhere.

One of the best of the many such shops is Lydia’s Consignment Boutique, 1460 NC Hwy 5, Pinehurst. This shop offers remarkable bargains on an amazing assortment of high end fashion and accessories. They only accept the best labels; St. John, Geiger, Ralph Lauren, Michael Simon, Talbots, Jones New York, Calvin Klein, Sag Harbor, Pendelton, Vera Bradley. Lydia's offers furs, evening wear, dresses, skirts, suits, jackets, outerwear, jeans, leather pants, purses, jewelry and shoes. It is a great source for special occasion or seasonal (party) clothes, or high quality basics to add to your wardrobe. It is easy to shop in the well organized shop. Sizes run from 2 to 3XL. It is a great place to shop or even splurge on extravagant fashion at a bargain price. Prices are 10 to 25% of original retail and the pricing policy calls for further 25% discount after 30 days and 50% after 60 days. For instance evening gowns for $40, furs for $200 and less, Talbots sweater jacket for $18, Leather pants for $30, Ralph Lauren jacket for $30 and Geiger jackets for $125. High quaility fashion at bargain basement prices in a well organized boutique staffed by friendly helpful people. This could almost be more fun than golf!

Lydia's is open Monday through Saturday 10 to 5 pm.
